Staff Bio

 Dr. Finnell has education beyond the required training for using IPL in a dry-eye setting, and has attended and certified in courses for further advancement in med spa procedures.  

She is an Army brat raised in Kentucky, Germany, California and Tennessee and attended the University of Arizona to earn her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. Following undergrad studies, she obtained her Optometric Doctor degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2000. Along the way, her externships included Low Vision at Baylor University in Houston, an AIDS clinic in downtown Houston including ocular surgical rotation, and the Indian Health Service at the IHS hospital in Phoenix, AZ. Her first job as an optometrist was at the IHS Globe, AZ location. She worked as a relief doctor around Tucson, AZ and a bit beyond, including Nogales, Sells and Safford before opening her practice in the Civano neighborhood of East Tucson in 2010.

Doctor Finnell is passionate about preventative care specializing in dry eye and nutrition. Her practice revolves around becoming and staying healthy from the inside out in order to protect the body from disease. As a member of the Ocular Wellness & Nutrition Society, her practice emphasizes nutrition as prevention, and centers on all ocular health especially blepharitis, dry eye and macular degeneration.

She enjoys Japanese archery (Kyudo) yoga, reading, history, walking, gardening, English country dance, travel, music and DIY home projects.

and was certified by Dermalogica. She is an excellent conversationalist, and is great at paying attention to detail. She is also fluent in Spanish! 

 Is a Doctor of Behavioral Health, DBH, a medical and clinical hypnotherapist, has a masters in Counseling and Psychology, and is a practitioner of sound medicine. She has been using specific sound healing methods for over 30 years with adults, teens, and children with addictions, mental health diagnosis, trauma and recovery, cancer and immune-compromised illness, in Internal Medicine with pain patients, with Dr. Andrew Weil’s integrative medicine students, and in private practice with people with different spiritual awakening experiences. She has been called a ‘shama mama’ and has studied harmonic overtones with Jill Purce, dreams and dimensions with Heather Valencia a Cherokee Shaman, with Shirley Nelson, a psychic, who worked for the Tucson Police Department finding missing children using only school photos (before cell phones), and was an apprentice to a Blackfoot Medicine Woman/ Healer Shaman for 17 years. Susan also offers online curated sound healing programs include Getting Good Sleep, Mastering Challenging Times for anxiety, litigation, medical and dental appointments, and stress, the Healing program for restoration and resilience, Managing Pain, and the Spiritual Awakening program also for people using psychedelics.
